Guest Post by Kelsey: My Favorite (Kick-Butt) Young Adult Heroines (In No Particular Order)

1. Cammie Morgan (Gallagher Girls series)

Cammie is a spy-in-training! She can take on just about anyone in a fight and she
knows all kinds of interesting and mysterious tricks and techniques to save the
day. She is an incredibly loyal friend and will do whatever it takes to make sure
her loved ones are safe.

2. Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games series)

Do I even need to explain this one? Katniss is the definition of a heroine. She is a
survivor and a good person at heart. If you can have one YA female on your side,
Katniss would be the girl to choose. I don’t want to spoil anything for those who
haven’t read the series, but from the start of the first book to the final book in the
series, Katniss never stops doing whatever she can to help those who need it. Plus
she is awesome with a bow and arrow.

3. Emerson Cole (Hourglass)

I’ve only read this book recently, but I have to say Em’s power and independence
shown from the first page. She doesn’t need anyone to help her out, she can do
that all on her own. Emerson is bold, daring, and, at the same time, down-to-earth.

4. Jacky Faber (The Bloody Jack series)

Jacky has been one of my favorite heroines for a long time. She gets herself, and
those around her, in the stickiest situations, yet she always pulls through. While
she is incredibly brave and independent, she also is just a regular girl at heart.
Jacky truly proves that females can do anything men can do- sail a ship, get into a
swordfight with pirates, fight in a war, and much more.

5. Hermione Granger (The Harry Potter series)

The Harry Potter series is my all-time favorite series and it wouldn’t be complete
without the intelligent and brave Hermione. She is such a great character and I
loved watching her character develop over the course of the series. Hermione is a
loyal friend, a dedicated student, and can think fast in tough situations. I just re-
read the last book and I can’t wait to see it come to life in just a few days!

Honorable Mentions: Astrid (Killer Unicorn series), Ellie (Angelfire), Tally
Youngblood (Uglies series), and Ai Ling (Silver Phoenix)

When Kelsey isn't blogging at The Book Scout, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, watching movies and traveling. She can also be found at Goodreads and Twitter

  1. I've read all of those heroines except for #1.
I love Em, and Jacky Faber, and basically everyone you mentioned -- they're all such strong characters.
