Girl Power Bookfest 2011
Here she is, people. It's finally happening.
Okay, okay, you have no idea what I'm talking about. Let me explain. For quite a while now I've been wanting to host an week of awesome over here at Lale on Lit, where said awesomeness revolves around celebrating strong female characters in YA.
I've always been a sucker for an MC who can stand up for herself, for a good reason: those girls were my role models as a child. Books were how I found out about the world beyond my kiddie bubble, and looking back, I think it's really important to present an accurate picture of what that world's like. Newsflash? Real women are strong and independent. They don't cower behind a sparkly vampire boyfriend who watches them sleep. In fact, real women find that pretty creepy.
So, in a few weeks' time, I'm going to be hosting two weeks of Girl Power themed celebration. There will be guest posts, author features, and a giveaway or two.
You'll see a new tab pop up next to my 'review archive' quite soon, labelled "Girl Power Bookfest '11", and that's where I'll be posting an up to date list of what events we're going to have on. Yay for being organized! As it stands, our tentative list of events is:
-An international giveaway of a book that features some serious girl power (TBD)
-An interview with Antony John, author of Five Flavors of Dumb
-An interview with Kelley Armstrong, author of the Darkest Powers series and The Gathering
-Guest post by writer & MFA student Betsy Cornwell
-Guest post by bloggers Aleeza, Jami, Kelsey and Sarah.
If you want to get ahead on your giveaway bonus points, here's what you can do from now:
-Save the button to your PC and upload it onto your blog sidebar to spread the word (+2)
-Email me your favorite Girl Power book and why you like the heroine; these will be compiled into a post to share with blog readers. (+1)
You can enter these points on the giveaway form when it goes up.
Anyone else as psyched as I am? Spread the word! (we're using the twitter hashtag #girlpower11)
I can't wait to hear all your thoughts, plus get some new book recommendations! :)

Super excited with this one. I know I have inclination towards male MC but at times, I do enjoy reading those with super cool female character as well! I think so far, I really like Yelena from Maria V. Snyder's Study Series =)
